Jejemon August Rush

Today is August 30, 2010 and this post is Jejedex Blog's first and probably my last Jeje post for the month of August. This entry is somewhat like a thank you message to all the internet users who made this small blog site of mine a success.

I am deeply honored to be one of the few people who got a lot of offers from highly praised magazines to give them consent of publishing some of the most infamous Jejemon-related photos ever seen in the web. Sadly but with pride, I did not accept any of the offers for I think doing it was way too troublesome.

Because of Jejemons, the JejeDEX Blog approximately received 12,000 visitors for the first two months of its existence. Thank you so much! Having such a good flow of traffic, for a newbie like me, was overwhelming and exciting as well.

Because of Jejemons, I realized that I can somehow write and make good posts as long as I'm interested and I'm dedicated to the stuff which, for no reason, may not be a part of my niche/ expertise. Probably the reason why I diversified my skills in writing focusing on different fields (news, features, literary, editorial, commentary, advertisiing etc.).

Because of Jejemons, I found out that you don't need to buy a domain just to publicize and make people aware of what is happening anywhere at any time.

Because of Jejemons, I made this blog alive and kicking for the unprecedented extension of its life, which rests upon the trend of user searchers for Jejemon and the like. Up until now, this blog remains on top of searches for terms like Jeje Cap, Jeje Keyboard, Jeje Alphabet. Meanwhile, the keyword "Jejedex" got its own pages as well in search bars. I didn't expect all of these would happen, again I thank everyone who made these once-I-concluded-I-could-never-do-at-a-young-age blogs possible..

Because of you, I achieved my dream of becoming a successful blogger. And this dream does not only end here. This is just the beginning of everything. I promise you that, as long as I have readers dropping by this site, I will maintain this blog and all the others that I made. Currently, I have 18 blogs constantly updated which are the following:

I will  never end up believing in my capabilities and reaching forth the pedestals of greater success. No one ,except I, is probably the happiest person this early morning (4:25 AM)) to wake up late this afternoon (probably 2PM).

I'm pleased and impressed with the way visitors drop by and leave comments about certain issues. I'm so glad that I got to prove to people why we don't need to include explicit terms like "porn", "sex", "hot girls" and the like, just to grab traffic and make a name. As the personally-interpreted-and-likewise-said infamous note of all people states, our lives depend on how we manage to try to achieve little by little the person we want to become in the future, which for me, would not really apply as I have a lot of dreams to catch.

Writing will always be my forte, but it will never be the only. May the rushing approach to Augustt's finale be full of inspiring thoughts and realizations.

Attacked by Jejemons

I'm Leigh, the owner and blogger of this blog. Recently, the site was attacked by Jejemons who really bombed one of my blog posts with Jeje-ish comments. I didn't realize that the extent of society's discrimination or criticism of Jejemons led to a gigantic rage that actually formed jejemon.i.ph, a sanctuary for all Jejemons.

With deep respect, I would like to tell and remind all viewers of the goals of setting up this humble, small-turned-viral blog of mine. The JejeDEX Blog or JejeDEX, Jejemon, Jeje Blog is a blog for all - jejemons and jejebusters.

The JejeDEX, Jejemon, Jeje Blog (or JejeDEX Blog) will serve as:
1. a site to report, capture or publicize Jejemons
2. a portal for Jejemons to explain their side
3. an area for Jejemon and Jejebusters to settle their differences and find a way to achieve ceasefire
4. a page that would cater to the thriving culture of Jejemons
5. a venue where humor and seriousness meet
6. a device to connect different types of people

Jejemon History: How It All Began

Several years ago, a lot of the youth joined text messaging clans while others played online MMORPG games like Ragnarok, Flyff, and Gunbound. Some, with the urge to find and get to know people of all ages online, joined in social networks like Friendster and Multiply. At that time, Friendster was in while Facebook was not what it turned out to be at present.

Due to the necessity of having to relay a message abruptly so as not to be delayed in action (while playing, texting or commenting), they tried to make messages they type really short to an extent that every word was internally altered using numbers to creatively displace letters that would still make the words readable. Of course, Jejemonism was not that intense and obvious at that time. 

It took a longer time before the more educated ones realized that something's not right and one thing has to be done - to abide by what is being conventionally dictated by society. At that moment, many of the younger generation became adapted to this kind of typing style for they really thought that it was somehow cool,  manageable and widely accepted within their age range. It was the new hip at that time, but as it grew out of nowhere, concerned academic people took this as a threat to the educational standards. In time, Jejemonism became the latest source of boiling social debates.

As time propelled and confusion arose, people who got addicted to this type of grammar destruction were termed Jejemons and were subjected to social criticisms. Somehow, they were associated to the Jologs due to the similarities in their style and fashion statement. Not all Jejemons are Jologs since some only type Jejenese but do not wear the same attire the Jologs wear. Also, not all Jologs are Jejemons because Jologs love to use outdated or absurd attire while some do not type the Jeje way.

Because of their interest in meeting new friends online and group messaging in their respective clans, as well as that need to cope with what is happening around them, they too involved themselves on Facebook, recklessly adding new friends on their list and pleading "pLz aDd m3 p0whsz!". Who knows, they might just be on their way to join Twitter. :)

Jejemon, Talk of the Town

Social debates continue to heat up as the government wears its battle gear in trying to diminish the spread of Jejemonism in the sub-dominantly English-speaking country. However, the Catholic Church interferes, explaining that Jejemonism is a form of the freedom to express one's self without being judged and subjected to social embarrassment.

It can be recalled that the word "jejemon" has had a lot of origins, but most people believe that it is derived from "jeje", an alternate for the term "hehe" in the Filipino SMS texting scenario, and then affixing "jeje" with "mon" which came from the series Pokemon (Pocket Monsters). 

A fresh and sizzling article in Inquirer.net now talks about the Philippines' fight against the Jejemon cyber language. Just click Philippines Wrestles with 'Jejemon' Cyber Language. The appropriate question here is, should someone be really bothered by such an existence? Or should everyone accept the fact that Jejemonism has indeed infiltrated present youth's everyday living? What will be its moral, social and economic impacts?

Jejemon Status Quo: How They Live Today

After lighting up a massive outrage from different sectors of the Philippine society, it seems like the Jejemons are now capable of living peacefully with their Jejebuster counterparts in the barrios, barangays, towns, and cities in the Philippines. It is therefore imminent in Filipinos that no matter how diverse we are, we still manage to keep our ties secured and value respect of other people's feelings and decisions.

This conclusion was derived based on my observation that in the fictional-surreal Jejemon world:

a. almost everyone stood by their principles and practiced their right to vote despite some pre-election and on-the-spot election violence related scenarios.

b. the Presidential candidate who proposed to admit the Jejemons back to elementary did not win the race since a lot of his youth supporters were hard hit and actually belonged to the Jejemon super clans and bunkers

c. a highly supported and respected President elect is expected to begin and mediate talks between Jejemons and Jejebusters, between the government and MILF, and between the pro- and anti- whatever-is-happening-and-being-proposed-at-hand-to-the-people.

d. a 7.3% economic growth during the incumbent Arroyo Regime should be underestimated and provided microscale focus by the incoming Aquino administration, since growth should not only be experienced by a few people, and Jejemons are ready to lend a helping hand so as to inflate the air of hope for the nation's future development.

e. Arroyo's bid for House Speakership was already verified untrue, which lowered down the political panic and emotional instability of our dear Jejemons and Jejebusters

f. both sides believe that the new administration's plans for the upcoming years will promote the general interest of majority of the people, if not everyone.

I just hope that no wars will be waged between both parties this time, 'cause the present world's been really doomed with too much natural disasters, unjust deaths, weird news, human repressions and dark sociolinguistic evolution.

Jejemons Fading, Bebemons Incoming!

After months of reckless Jejemon invasion, their (Jejemons) aggression seems to  have settled down for a while. Meanwhile, another influential class of language abominations are coming to town. This might just be an introduction to their rising prowess and regrettable entry into the Philippine language arena. Text messaging has indeed become a barrier in maintaining correct language use and conventional spell-typing.

The Bebemons now challenge the authority of the Jejemons. These people may be fictional, surreal or real. Some of them have already imparted their skills in communicating stereotyped baby talks. Bebemons do not only possess that horrible talent of jejetyping, but also, mimicking or somehow acting immaturely text-wise.

If we translate the message: "Ayoko na sayo! Hindi na kita bati. Galit ako sayo," the result would somewhat look like this: "Ayoto na teyo! Hindi na tita bate. Gayet at0 teyo."

2010 Words of the Year (Personal Version)

If I were to choose the top ten (10) most influential words of the year, these would be the following:

1. Halalan - This term topped the Twitter trending keywords and even toppled Justin Bieber from its throne.
2. Immortal - Globe's goal to make users text more for less has brought about their hip promo, Globe Immortal Txt. The promo might have, in a way, publicized the word and made it one of the most popular words being used by Filipinos this 2010.
3. Jejemon, Jejedex - Ever since the discovery and entry of the terms into the Philippine setting, Filipinos across the world have been buzzing about its origins and definition. These words also led to the sudden birth of the JejeDEX Blog.
4. Ondoy - The wrath of typhoon Ondoy slammed Filipinos shaken, making Ondoy one of my chosen influential words because of the terrifying experience it had reminded us of how dangerous Earth is.
5. Dota - The game, Defense of the Ancients, has produced 18 million links worldwide and has impacted on the Filipino youth making DOTA one of the longest staying games in the country. I give this word a shot at the list for its prevalence in Filipino recreation.
6. Kuya - The airing of the Pinoy Big Brother made the term "Kuya" popular to Filipinos. Its continuous flow of program seasons has proved how reality television shows have become widely accepted by the Filipino public.
7. Youtube - The term has been everywhere since the video portal opened few years back. DVD's have been forgotten due to the introduction of Youtube; that's why I include this in my list.
8. Marimar - This television program aired by GMA, a giant tv network in the Philippines, made its title word "Marimar" a crowd favorite, as the character endorsed offers the stereotype of Philippine beauty and sizzles with one of the hottest love teams in the Philippines.
9. Boto Patroller - This two-word term was introduced a year ago when TV Patrol World opened their public service program, Boto Mo, Ipatrol Mo Ako ang Simula, which later became useful in revealing the anomalies last May 10 elections.
10. Emo - To complete the list is the word "emo" imposed on anyone who shares a dramatic story in life. Originally, the term "emo" was coined for people who love style of rock music which is typically characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics.

Jejemon, Finalist for Word of the Year

A group of academics from the University of the Philippines - Diliman, the country's most prestigious academe, has chosen the word "jejemon" as finalist for the word of the year. Last Friday, ten (10) words were chosen by the Fillipinas Institute of Translation (FIT) as these words had a "strong influence" otoFilipino living for the past two years.

Included in the list of finalists for word of the year are:

• Ampatuan
• unli
• load
• tarpo
• solb
• emo
• namumutbol
• Ondoy

The winning word of the year will be announced on July 29 and 30 (after a two-day national conference) to be held at the Bulwagang Rizal (Faculty Center) in the UP Diliman Campus.

It can be recalled that last 2007 the word "miskol", Tagalog counterpart for the phrase "missed call", won as the word of the year. In 2008 and 2009, no words of the year were chosen because the awarding group believed that no word deserved such title.

JejeDEX UPDATE!

Some of you might have noticed that there have been some recent changes in this blog. This was done to further encourage you guys to subscribe and/ or follow this humble site of mine. Lol, just kidding.

a. Updated Title - The title has been updated from JejeDEX to JejeDEX, Jejemon, Jejeje. I realized that I would want to tell more information about Jejemons and all the other terms related to it.

b. Free User Commenting - Before, I only allowed registered/ specific users to post their comments. Now, anyone may publicize his/ her views regarding certain related aspects. Off topic comments will be deleted, I guess.

c. Brand New Header - You may be aware that the header of this blog has changed. I would like to know if the original is way better than the updated or what, so that I may be able to revert it back to the original setting.

d. More Brief Posts! - For quite some time, people from around the world have been hovering around this blog trying to figure what this new type of phenomenon really is like. And so, I intended to gather up more information and surprising revelations concerning the world of Jejemons. Also, I want you guys not to be dragged by lengthy posts, so that it would be easier for you to browse on it.

e. Monthly Featured JejeVideo - I decided to publicize more Jejemon videos uploaded by youtube users on a monthly basis as these stuffs have been the sources of the nationwide "hunt" for Jejemon truth. (Ugh, I mean the Jejemon craze.)

How to Spot a Jejemon

Aside from using the Jejedex, to unmask the real face of a Jejemon, one should be able to determine a Jejemon's unique abilities. 

First, they jibe with the songs of Soulja Boy, but to differentiate it from avid fans of SB, always bear in mind that Jejemons want to draw the crowds' attention by increasing the volume of the music being played while driving their Jejescooter or Jejecycle with their Jejegirl/ boyfriends. Another movement to detect Jejemons is through browsing each one's friendster or facebook profile. Yeah, I understand what you mean, but if you really care to know more about them (or be one of them), stalk them! Or else, they will stalk you.  Yes, Jejemons possess the ability to hyper stalk at anyone they think is nice to them and would love to mingle with them  by first impression. The best ability, however, is the ability to Jejetype using their very own Jeje Alphabet, as described in previous posts presented by this blog.

Beware of Jejemons 'cause they're all around. Surely, they don't want to hurt anyone. They just want acceptance in this society where everyone tries to fit in.

Jejemon Items: Jeje Dictionary

People have been addicted with this Jejemon craze, so for the sake of pure fun and  ecstatic entertainment, they made this dictionary the author spotted online. Jejemonism is the current subject currently being taken by the bum youth. They usually either laugh it over or get along with some other Jeje trainees in facebook. Take it easy guys! It's just a dictionary!! The "QamuxZta" word is really intolerable, haha. Just prepare yourself if DepEd surprises us with an additional required subject to take, Jejemonism 101: The Lengthy Truth.

The Jejemon Wave Goes Global!

Jejemons still continue to dominate online searches. People have been keying in 300 different keywords related to Jejemon, and the hottest topics are Jeje Cap, Jeje Alphabet, Jejemon, Jejebuster and Jejedex. USA ranks number two in the most number of unique keywords searched and visits made, while Canada follows along with Singapore, Australia, Japan, UK and UAE. Philippines earns the highest popularity sources with approximately 32 cities as sources of visits since the launch of Jejedex two weeks ago (April 25).

The Jejedex blog site took the top 9 spot two days ago, and plunged down to number 12 today. Live traffic feed monitors international and local visitors in a day-to-day basis.

Jejemon Items: The Jejewallet

It comes in colorful combinations, the Jejewallet is one of the hippest accessories being bought in stalls. Jejemons crave for this. Each wallet has its own design. The wallets can also be used as storage of their Jeje letters to their crushes. Moreover, the Jejewallets act as a normal type of wallet and its bright appearance makes it easier for Jejebusters to detect and catch their own Jejemons.

Pokemon and Jejemon: Which is Which?

It's really hard to distinguish a pokemon from a jejemon. I'm not being sarcastic here. I want everyone to learn how to differentiate both. That's why I decided to write about this interesting and not so obvious distinction.

About their dress code, pokemons wear nothing (except for Jinx and Mr. Mime). They just like being watched bare naked. For them, it means freedom. Nevertheless, Jejemons wear fabulous, colorful clothes relative to the Pokemons. They're famous for wearing Jejecaps, Jeje bags, Jejewallet, etc. The rainbow-colored accessories they wear are their trademark. For them, it also means freedom. Others say it's freaky.

Let's talk about their public appearance. First, pokemons are cute and cuddly. You just can't resist them. They have 2D physique and surrealistic colors. They possess unusual abilities and appeal to us because of their lovely voice. However, they may not be touched unless you see them in toy stores. Nobody has ever seen them alive and kicking on the spot. People who see them really moving are not crazy; instead, they needed to be treated with special care. 

On the other hand, jejemons are the complete opposite. They're pa-cute and sometimes vain (in texting oddly). Just like pokemons, you just can't resist them but to add up, as sources reveal, they're annoyingly irresistible. They have 3D bodies and realistic rainbow colors in their accessories. They possess human abilities (walking, jumping, texting, surfing social networks, etc.). They really appeal to the public, to such an extent that people cry their names out loud on Facebook and tell the Jejemons to stop populating to avoid outnumbering pokemons (now, at 490+) and to lower the rate of their species' inflation. Unlike the pokemons, jejemons can be spotted everywhere in the country. They're text prolongation skill primarily sets them apart from pokemons. Of course, Pokemons don't text but I guess Ash does. People who see them wandering around become crazy trying to figure out the encrypted message sent to them by Jejemons. However, they should be treated nicely because their craziness is temporary (usually occurs 2-3 minutes after reading one Jeje text).

When trained by a pokemon master, pokemons level up. They have many level stages and usually evolve. Conversely, Jejemons train themselves. They do level up, but only have three levels: mild, moderate and severe. Mild jejemons are learning ones; they're like the elementary students in the Jejeworld. Moderate jejemons act as apprentices of severe Jejemons. Severe jejemons are the ones being sought after by modern Jejebusters. The reason is that, severe Jejemons hold the line between the Jejeworld and the real world. Jejebusters fear of the two world colliding which might cause public outrage and Jejemon coup.

The heated conflict between Jejemons and Jejebusters has caused widespread criticism from the Pokemons' side. Pokemon trainers like Ash, Brock and Misty only want to be the very best, like no one ever was, to catch them is their real test, and to train them is their cause. Pokemons become touched knowing that there are some many who would caress and help them grow and evolve. Nonetheless, Jejebusters assure texters singing "if there's something strange in the way they text, who ya gonna call? JEJEBUSTERS!" Jejemons also become touched knowing that some many out there have already caught their attention. And their fame still continues.
